Design and Build Your Own Crystal Geode Candle Pillar

Transform an ordinary pillar candle into a striking sculptural centrepiece inspired by weathered stone, ancient ruins, natural crystal geodes and steampunk design in this hands-on candle making workshop in London.
You’ll build a handcrafted plaster shell around a pre-made pillar candle before transforming it into a unique decorative piece using paints, semi-precious stones, mixed media and optional UV resin. The result is a beautiful candle pillar that looks carved from aged stone and broken open to reveal a sparkling crystal geode hidden within.
Whether you’re drawn to dramatic monochrome finishes, shimmering metallic details, vibrant resin geodes or rustic industrial textures, you’ll have complete creative freedom to design a piece that’s uniquely yours — no two candle pillars are ever the same. This workshop is made for complete beginners as well as anyone who enjoys mixed-media crafts, home décor or learning new creative techniques.
What you'll do
Choose Your Design
Begin by selecting your pillar candle, then explore a range of inspiring geode, stone and rustic designs. You'll decide on your own style, colour palette and overall composition before sketching out your ideas.
Build the Plaster Structure
Learn how to create the mould that forms the decorative candle pillar around your candle. You'll mix and pour plaster using professional techniques before learning how to sculpt, carve and distress the surface to create the appearance of aged stone.
Create the Geode Design
While your plaster cures, browse our extensive collection of semi-precious stones, crystals, decorative glass, beads and mixed-media embellishments. You'll experiment with different layouts and design the geode cavity that becomes the focal point of your piece.
Paint and Add Special Effects
Bring your candle pillar to life using a variety of decorative painting techniques to create realistic stone, concrete, metallic and antique finishes, with optional gilding to highlight details.
Build the Crystal Geode
Secure your chosen stones and decorative materials to create a stunning crystal geode effect, with the option to work with UV resin for beautiful crystal-clear depth and sparkle.
Seal & Take Home Your Creation
Complete your candle pillar by applying a protective varnish for a durable, professional-quality finish — ready to display with your favourite pillar candle inside.
